PUISQU’À TOUTE FIN CORRESPOND – ENTRETIENS
Puisqu'à toute fin correspond -- Entretiens broaches
Raymond Gervais's entire artistic practice,
which began in the mid seventies and
comprises performances, installations,
and texts.
Do we think
acoustically? Do we see acoustically?
These questions are central to Raymond
Gervais's art and Nicole Gingras gives
them careful consideration in the series
of interviews that make up this publication.
Here, the artist comments on his production,
on forthcoming projects, on his readings,
and on his passion for the phonographic.
Particular figures emerge -- artists, writers,
musicians --, and the power of the
imagination pervades throughout.
Arranged in thirteen chapters, this
conversation was carried out between
2004 and 2007. It takes the reader into
a rich and complex body of work that
resonates with themes that touch many
art forms.
Puisqu'à toute fin correspond -- Entretiens is
the 8th title to be published at Éditions
Nicole Gingras, a publishing house supporting
artists from Québec .
The 140-page book is published in
French, in a limited edition of 500
copies, and includes the photograph

Born in 1946, Raymond Gervais lives
in Montreal. Attentive to the relationships
of equivalence between sound, text and
images, he has produced installations
and performances that lie at the crossroads
of music, literature, and the visual
arts. Records, turntables and CD cases
play an important role in his research
and practice. His texts (critical commentaries,
essays, and artist's texts), which have
been published in catalogues, anthologies,
and periodicals, deal as much with musicians
and visual artists as with his own art
practice. Works by Raymond Gervais may
be found in the collections of many
museums throughout Quebec and Canada.
