Entrance : 8 $ (TILT 01 + TILT 02 : 12$)
La Sala Rossa, 4848 boulevard Saint-Laurent |
| And Sonde LIVE
after 20 years of silence |
| Live
performances by Sonde, a group composed of Andrew Culver,
Keith Daniel, Pierre Dostie, Chris Howard, Charles de Mestral
and Robin Minard, had a great impact on the Montreal music
scene of the late 70s and the mid 80s. One of the very few
musical intervention groups in Quebec whose practice blended
visual arts, installation and performance, Sonde, with their
productions, prefigured the bruitist and kinetic studies of
current artists such as our guests: contemporary and sound
artist Jean-Pierre Aubé,
turntablist and painter David Lafrance and performer and sound
researcher Alexis Bellavance.
To start the program, Charles de Mestral, founding member
of the group, composer, sound sculptor, electronic system
designer and performer, will introduce the interdisciplinary
work of Sonde and will play us selected tracks. |

02 Tributes to Dionne Brégent, Bernard Bonnier Concerts :
Simon Guibord, Minibloc, John Sellekaers
Sunday, October 22, 9h pm
Entrance : 8 $ (TILT 01 + TILT 02 : 12$)
La Sala Rossa, 4848 boulevard Saint-Laurent |
| These
tributes concern two atypical records produced in Quebec
during the late 70s...Et le troisième jour (1976, Disques Capitol)
belongs more to a European tradition of atmospheric music,
even rhythmic music, than to the Quebec production of that
era. As for Casse-Tête (1984, Amaryllis © Bernard
Bonnier, 1979), it is the peculiar work of a gifted electroacoustic
composer, Bernard Bonnier, who amused himself realizing tracks
which oscillated between electroacoustic sounds and pop music,
with humor and self-derision as an added bonus. To start the program, the founder of the empreintes DIGItales
label, Jean-François Denis, will unveil a new audio
DVD by Bernard Bonnier which collects exclusive works. He
will present us the artists to whom this program is dedicated
and will make us appreciate works taken from the two records
which have the place of honour here. |

TILT is a sound
broadcast event which presents twelve works that are essentially
musical, created by composers and artists from Quebec. For
each event, the thematic and historic focus is a prominent
figure in sound creation (electroacoustic and experimental
music, sound art) in Quebec who is nowadays unrecognized or
has been forgotten. The 12 invited contemporary artists were
chosen for the quality of their performances and not for some
similarity with their predecessors.
ANY RESEMBLANCE WOULD THEN BE PURELY ACCIDENTAL... Each evening is comprised of two distinct programs, one
at 5h pm and the other at 9h pm. The entrance fee for each
program is $8 (at the door only) or $12 for two programs
attended on the same night. TILT events are projects that
demand attentive listening.
Please note that the programs begin on time and that absolute
silence is mandatory. Thank you for your understanding.

| Having worked with
many contemporary composers, both European and US, Micheline
Coulombe Saint-Marcoux (1938-1985) produced important works
which reveal the openness of the composer to each of the disciplines
she contributed to (voice, percussion, sound ecology).
Her commitment towards the recognition of electroacoustic music
in Quebec drove the creation of specialized organizations and
the inclusion of this type of music in the curriculum of educational
institutions. This program is presented
by Jean-François Denis,
producer of the empreintes DIGItales label, who will introduce
us to the works of composer Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux.
Some tracks taken from the Impulsion CD, on empreintes DIGItales
(catalog number: IMED0159, 2001) will be played.

Special
guest directly from Faroe

|
| A renowned scientist,
physicist and specialist in radars and other detection objects,
Ontario engineer Hugh Le Caine (1914-1977) had a passion for
sounds. An exploratory dimension characterizes both the instruments
he designed during his spare time and his too-rare recordings.
The four guests of this evening have the same imagination and
originality. The evening is presented by Gayle Young, artist, biographer
of Hugh Le Caine and author of The Sackbut Blues: Hugh Le
Caine, Pioneer in Electronic Music (published by the National
Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, ISBN 0-660-12006-2).
She is the director of the Toronto magazine Musicworks. |
